BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Bethune-Cookman shortstop
Erick Almonte has been named SWAC Hitter of the Week, the Southwestern Athletic Conference announced Wednesday afternoon from its headquarters in Birmingham, Alabama.
This is the first weekly award of the season for Almonte and the ninth for B-CU as a team this season.
Almonte was incredible for the Wildcats as they upset defending national champions - #24 LSU - and won a weekend series at Mississippi Valley State. In four games, the senior recorded eight hits in 15 at-bats, two doubles, 10 RBI and his first two homers of the season - including a grand slam. He also walked twice and scored four runs.
The Wildcats will look to keep things rolling after yet another ranked upset on Tuesday. B-CU takes on the Alabama A&M Bulldogs this weekend beginning Friday at 7 p.m. from Sliwa Stadium.
