Virginia Beach, Va. -
In his last game as a Wildcat, redshirt senior kicker Lucas Esquivel has been named as this week's Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week.
Esquivel, a 5-foot-10, 180-pound kicker from Ocala, Fla., was a perfect 4-for-4 on extra-point attempts over the weekend against rival Florida A&M in the 28th Annual Walt Disney World Florida Classic presented by State Farm. He went on to add to those numbers with a 2-for-3 showing on field goals that included distances of 30 and 34 yards, respectively.
Esquivel is earning his first MEAC Special teams Player of the Week award in his career at Bethune-Cookman University.
Others collecting weekly awards around the league were Rudy Hardie of Howard who picked up this week's Defensive Player of the Week award after collecting 14 tackles against Delaware State. Hardie snapped B-CU's Ronnie McCullough's four-week consecutive string of Defensive Player of the Week awards.
Will Ford of South Carolina State was named as Offensive Player of the Week, while teammate James Lee was named as Offensive Lineman of the Week after helping the Bulldogs to a season-best 632 yards of total offense against rival North Carolina A&T. Ford scored one touchdown for the `Dogs. While amassing a school single-game best 323 yards rushing on just 21 attempts.
Bethune-Cookman University finished off the 2007 season with a 5-6 overall record, but did win three of their final four games of the campaign to salvage what was eventually back-to-back losing seasons for the first time in the Alvin Wyatt era for the Wildcats.
