FIRST QUARTER
The Wildcat defense was tested early when Corey Council fumbled on the opening kickoff return giving the Pirates the ball on the B-CU 25. Travis Roland's QB sack ended the first drive of the game and Hampton punted.
Senior QB McKinson Souverain hit Jeff Pope on a 53-yard pass play to get the Wildcats out from their own end zone midway through the first quarter. The Pirates drove the ball seventy yards and kicked a 20-yard field goal with 19 seconds remaining to lead 3-0 at the end of the first quarter. Roland again made the key defensive stop with a two yard tackle for loss with the ball on the B-CU one yard line
Souverain ran “Wyattbone” left for a 26 yard run on the final play of the first quarter down to the Hampton 32 yard line.
SECOND QUARTER
Souverain rushing and B-CU defense – key the 'Cats in second quarter
Souverain averted four tackles and rushed 29 yards on a third and 20 play to keep B-CU's first scoring drive alive. Brian Sumlar rushed one yard for a touchdown capping an 80 yard/8 play drive with 12:50 to play in the first half to give the Wildcats a 7-3 lead.
The B-CU defense stopped the Pirates twice inside the ten yard line and Hampton kicked another 20 yard field goal making the score 7-6 with 9:24 remaining in the second quarter. Roland had two more tackles for losses to key the defense.
