11th Ranked San Diego Beats Bethune-Cookman 9-6

USD's James Meador two-run triple in the 8th inning broke open a 7-6 one-run game and gave the Toreros the final runs needed to beat Bethune-Cookman Saturday night at the MLB Urban Invitational - second day of games.

 B-CU (0-2) scored five runs in the fourth inning to come back from a 7-1 deficit closing to 7-6.  The game stayed a one-run contest for the next four innings of scoreless ball before Meador's key two-out triple off Wildcat reliever Justin Dahl.  B-CU sophomore lefty Joseph Munoz pitched 3.2 innings of relief for starter Eric Thomas (0-1) and held USD (2-0) scoreless before the 8th inning triple to the wall in right center (Munoz was responsible for the two runners that scored).
 
USD built up a 7-1 lead scoring three runs in the first and two in both the third and fourth innings with big home runs blows by Kevin Muno and Victor Sanchez.
 
Starting pitcher Kyle Blair (1-0) got the win pitching five innings, allowing four hits and five earned runs, striking out five Wildcats. Reliever Matt Thomson got the save pitching one-hit ball for four innings and striking out six.
 
B-CU plays Southern University (Sunday 1 p.m. PST) in game three of the 2009 Urban Invitational.
 
Battle of the Bands - Hall of Famers - Highlight The MLB Urban Invitational - Day Two
 
The Battle of the Bands followed Saturday's game with the Wildcats' Marching Band and Southern University's band entertaining the overflow crowd of 2500 at the MLB Urban Academy.
 
Hall of Famers Frank Robinson, Compton native Duke Snider, Tony Gwynn and "Mudcat" Grant were on hand to throw out the first balls today at the invitational.
