2nd annual Major League Baseball Urban Invitational - Day three game

FRESHMAN DUO LEAD WILDCATS TO 10-4 WIN AT MLB URBAN INVITATIONAL

Freshman lefthander Peter O'Brien was 4-4 at the plate with a run scored and a RBI to pace the 11 hit B-CU offense.

Southern University (1-2), winners over San Diego State 4-2 Saturday in the 2nd Annual Major League Baseball Urban Invitational,  had the bases loaded with no outs Sunday vs. the Wildcats in the opening frame. Simpson settled down in his first inning as a collegian getting three straight outs and no runs scored.

B-CU (1-2) scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning on RBI singles by Jose Ortiz, Alejandro Jimenez, and O'Brien. The Wildcats pushed their lead to 5-1 with a two-run single by another freshman - 3B -Jairo Acevedo, in the fourth inning. Acevedo was 2-3 and knocked in four runs in the game. His two-run double into the left field corner in the bottom of the eighth inning closed the scoring at 10-4, capping a four-run inning by B-CU.

Senior Chris Brown hit his first home run of the year in the four-run eighth.

Senior RHP Concepcion Guzman got out of a bases loaded jam in the top of the eighth inning to preserve a 6-4 lead before the Wildcats scored the four insurance runs in their half of the eighth.

Bethune-Cookman University gets back from the coast-to-coast trip to California on Monday and opens the 2009 home season at Jackie Robinson Ballpark hosting Stetson Tuesday night, 6 p.m. start.
