WILDCATS BEAT STETSON 4-2 IN SEASON HOME OPENER

Machado Pitches Four-Hit Ball Over Seven Innings For the Mound Win

Junior right hander Felix Machado pitched seven strong innings for the win as the Wildcats beat Stetson University 4-2 Tuesday night at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.

Timely hitting with run scoring hits by Jose Ortiz (3rd inning triple), Mark Brooks (RBI single in the third), Peter O'Brien (RBI single in the 4th) and Chris Brown (run-scoring double in the eighth) – gave Machado and reliever Justin Dahl (two inning save -#1 on the season).

B-CU Head Coach Felix Machado did a great job on the mound and kept them off balance. Stetson has always been a good hitting team and to hold them to six hits – that is a great game. Machado executed the game plan of  Coach Arnold (pitching coach Jason). He was able to locate his off speed pitches for strikes.”

Lefty Justin Dahl pitched the final two innings for the save, his first as a Wildcat and wrapped up the 4-2 victory on a crisp clear night to open the 2009 home season.

Stetson drops to 0-5 on the season and the Wildcats up their record to 2-2 entering this weekend's four game tournament play at Florida Gulf Coast University in Ft. Myers.

B-CU next plays Towson State University, Thursday night, with sophomore lefty Joseph Munoz the probable starting pitcher.  Hiram Burgos is expected to start Friday 4 p.m. vs. Boston College (who swept a four-game series last weekend vs. the Hatters at Stetson).

Junior right hander Eric Thomas will pitch Saturday vs. Samford 8 p.m., and freshman left hander Ali Simpson will pitch Sunday vs. host FGCU (12 noon start).
