WILDCATS LOSE 7th STRAIGHT - JU WINS 9-6
Jacksonville University (10-7) led 5-0 after five innings and B-CU closed to 5-3 scoring three runs in the bottom of the fifth on RBI singles by freshmen infielders Alejandro Sanchez and Jairo Acevedo and another scored on a wild pitch.
Wildcat pitcher Hiram Burgos (1-3) pitched five innings and took the loss allowing seven hits and five runs, striking out six.
JU's bats came back alive for four more runs in the sixth inning off B-CU relievers Roman Lancara and Concepcion Guzman. The Dolphins pounded out 12 hits with Alex Martinez going 3-5 to lead the offense. JU reliever Joey Weidner (2-0) was the winning pitcher in relief of starter Clay Kollenbaum.
Bethune-Cookman (8-12) had 10 hits in the contest, Emmanuel Castro was 3-4 and Jose Ortiz was 2-4 in the second straight home loss at Jackie Robinson Ballpark to A-Sun Conference foes (Tuesday night, Stetson won 5-1). B-CU closed to 9-6 in the bottom of the ninth on a two-run single by C. J. Lauriello but the next Wildcat batter was retired to the end the game.
The 'Cats open MEAC Conference play this weekend hosting FAMU Saturday with the doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Sunday's single game starts at 1 p.m.
