FAU Owls Beat Wildcats 11-5

 

Florida Atlantic University (18-16) scored five runs in both the fifth and seventh innings to break open a 1-1 game and win at home Wednesday night 11-5. 

 

The teams were tied at 1-1 before the Owls sent 11 batters to the plate in the fifth hitting two doubles and a two-run home run, scoring five runs on five hits to go ahead 6-1. Wildcat starter Joseph Munoz (2-4) pitched 4.0 innings allowing 7 hits, 4 runs, walking one with two strike outs. Hiram Burgos and Eric Thomas both worked innings coming out of the bull pen Wednesday night vs. FAU. The Owls out hit B-CU 12-6 in the game, played following a one hour rain delay.

 

It took B-CU (18-19) until the sixth inning to register its first hit, and the bats came alive in the sixth scoring three runs on four hits including RBI doubles by C. J. Lauriello and Peter O'Brien to close the FAU lead to 6-4.

 

FAU starter Hugh Adams pitched 4.2 innings and did not allow a hit before he was relieved in the fifth inning. Adams walked five and hit three Wildcat batters. B-CU scored a run in the fifth on two walks and a throwing error.

 

Bethune-Cookman scored its fifth run in the eighth inning on a run-scoring single by Alejandro Sanchez to make the final score 11-5.

 

The Wildcats return home in MEAC play this weekend hosting Coppin State in a doubleheader Saturday, 1 pm at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. The teams will play one game on Sunday, 1 pm start.
