WILDCATS LOSE IN 10 INNINGS 3-2 AT JACKSONVILLE

 

Two runs in the bottom of the ninth tied the game at 2-2 and Jacksonville University won it with a run in the 10 th inning on a bases loaded walk to beat Bethune-Cookman 3-2 Wednesday night.

 

B-CU's Edgar Serra (0-1) pitched the tenth inning and allowed a single, a ground out, an intentional walk, then a bases loaded walk on a 3-2 count with two outs to give JU (28-13) the home win.

 

Wildcat starter Samuel Rodriguez pitched five solid innings allowing two hits, no runs, walked one and struck out four JU batters in his top pitching outing of the season.

 

Freshman left hander Ali Simpson came on to pitch two scoreless innings striking out four batters, allowing one hit and one walk.

 

Sophomore lefty Joseph Munoz came in to pitch to three batters in the eighth inning and B-CU starter Eric Thomas came in to pitch with two runners on and one out, getting out of that jam with no runs scored in the eighth.

 

Jacksonville University hitting leader Alex Martinez hit his ninth home run of the season to lead off the bottom of the ninth off Thomas and JU tied it up on a suicide squeeze bunt by Dan Maier to make the score 2-2.

 

The Wildcats (24-23) made the most of their nine hits scoring two runs. Emmanuel Castro led the offense going 3-4 in the win.  Alejandro Jimenez had a run-scoring single in the fifth inning to give the `Cats a 2-0.  Drew Clark's bad hop single scored a run in the fourth inning. Clark was 2-4 in the ball game.

 

The Wildcats host Delaware State Saturday, 3 PM at Jackie Robinson Ballpark with the game being broadcast live national on ESPNU TV. The second game of the doubleheader follows at approx. 6 pm. The three-game MEAC series concludes Sunday at 1 pm -
