Hurricanes Three Home Runs Enough Offense For 5-2 Win

#14 Miami Hurricanes (28-9) hit three home runs and held off Bethune-Cookman University (23-15) for a 5-2 win Tuesday night at Alex Rodriguez Park. It was the fifth straight win for UM and snapped B-CU's winning streak at four games.

Three Wildcat pitchers limited Miami to only six hits, but the three home runs were enough offense for the Hurricanes in the game. B-CU out-hit Miami 7-6 with Peter O'Brien leading the way going 2-4.

The Hurricanes jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning with a two-out single by Harold Martinez. Martinez later homered and had three RBI in the contest.

The Wildcats tied the game at 2-2 in the third inning on two-out, run-scoring singles by Peter O'Brien and Emmanuel Castro.

B-CU starter Roman Lancara (3-2) retired seven consecutive batters including four by strikeouts in the first three innings before giving up back-to-back home runs to Miami in the bottom of the fourth inning for a 4-2 Cane lead.

Lancara pitched five innings, allowed four runs, four hits and struck out five batters.  Reliever Justin Dahl pitched 1.1 innings and Chris Anselmo inherited a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the seventh and got out of it with no runs throwing a double play ball to end the inning. Anselmo struck out two and allowed one hit in 1.2 scoreless innings.

Miami starter senior RHP David Gutierrez (4-0) had his scoreless inning streak snapped at 13 with the B-CU runs in the third. He pitched 6.2 innings and allowed six hits and struck out six Wildcat hitters.
