B-CU Wins 14-3 With Season-High 19 Hits Against Stetson, First Time in 30 Years of Series With 3 Straight Wins

The Wildcats pounded out a season-high 19 hits and beat Stetson University 14-3, their third straight win over the Hatters in 2010. Peter O'Brien continued his red-hot hitting against SU going 3-4 with 2 RBIs. In 3 games vs. Stetson this season, O'Brien is 7-12 with two grand slam home runs and 10 RBI.

O'Brien had many other teammates with offensive highlights: C. J.  Lauriello was 3-3 with four runs scored, Jeremy Davis had a two-run RBI single, Matt Wright had a two-run triple and three RBI, DJ Leonard was 2-5 wih 3 RBI, Ryan Durrence was 2-5 with 2 RBI and 11 players scored runs in the ball game.

"Tonight was a very nice ball game for us. I think everybody did their job well in tonight's rival game. We had a break from practice (no game in a week) so the guys could rest because we have been playing a lot of games," said B-CU Head Coach Mervyl Melendez.

" I don't only want to look at this game as a win but to keep it going. I have much respect for Stetson and Coach Pete Dunn, they were coming in here with a winning streak and are a good team."

"Peter O' Brien has came alive for us and he is catching most of the games behind the plate and producing a lot for us on offense. He played over here (for DeLand Suns) during the summer and it is his talent that he has put to work offensively and defensively. And with the pitchers commanding the strike zone and his pick offs (throws). Matt Wright just came off an injury and he is feeling a lot better and he is producing also on the offensive end. Matt came in with some big hits in tonight's game - a triple and 2 RBI which is what we needed. Going into Saturday's MEAC home opener we look forward to doing the same - throwing strikes, keeping our composure, and doing what we do best as a team - hitting the ball and scoring runs," said Melendez.

Patrick Goelz (1-1) earned the win in relief of starter Roman Lancara in the 4th inning. Also pitching innings in relief were Chris Anselmo, Joseph Munoz and Juan Perez limiting the Hatters to five hits in the game.

B-CU (16-13, 3-0 MEAC) will be back at home (in Ormond Beach) Saturday, 1 p.m. doubleheader vs. North Carolina A&T (6-0, MEAC) in Conference play. The Sunday 1 p.m. single game will be back at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
