DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman defensive end Ryan Davis received a great deal of national and regional recognition Monday, coming off his outstanding 3.5 sack, 11 tackle performance against the Norfolk State Spartans last Thursday on ESPNU. Not only did he earn MEAC Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by officials from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), but also one of the biggest nationally-based awards as well.  Joining Davis in receiving MEAC honors, running back Isidore Jackson was named MEAC Offensive Player of the Week.

A senior from Tampa, Fla., Davis collected 11 tackles, eight solo, with six for a loss of 25 yards in defeating the 24th ranked Spartans. He posted 3.5 sacks for a 21-yard loss.  He also forced and recovered a fumble and logged a quarterback hurry in the 14-6 nationally televised victory, earning him the honor of MEAC Defensive Player of the Week.

In addition to MEAC Accolades, Davis earned national recognition, earning B-CU's first National FCS Defensive Player of the Week award from The Sports Network/Fathead.com, given to the top defender in the nation for the week.

“It's a great honor to receive from all the different sources,” said Davis of the accolades, always a very humble student-athlete. “But I have to give all the credit to the guys I line up with every day. If we didn't practice the way we did, I wouldn't be in a position to make some of the plays they set me up for, so I just have to give all the credit to those guys and the coaching staff here.”

Isidore Jackson

Teammate Isidore Jackson was named as the MEAC Offensive Player of the Week, coming off his record-setting rushing performance against the Spartans. The Mossy Head, Fla. native rushed for 206 yards to lead the Wildcats offensively to a 14-6 victory, and break a 36-year-old record for single game rushing attempts. Jackson, who averaged 6.5 yards per carry, recorded a new school single game record with the 34 attempts, while recording only the ninth 200+ yard rushing performance in program history.

With some of the national awards committees still out, more hardware is expected for the Wildcats this week, as they prepare to take the road once again, facing the Eagles of North Carolina Central in Durham on Saturday.
