MEAC/SWAC Challenge Scenes: Fanor, Larry Little Honored

Sept. 5, 2011

Jean Fanor and Jarrett Payton

ORLANDO, Fla. – Defensive back Jean Fanor's weekend was one to remember. Not only did he make his return to the field after missing 2010 with a broken foot, but the senior from Miami was named B-CU's winner of the MEAC/SWAC Challenge Walter Payton Achievement Award Friday evening.

Fanor is a two-time member of the MEAC all-academic team.

"Winning that award means a lot,” Fanor I see that people are recognizing my ability to be a student athlete in the classroom … to do good in the classroom as well as the field.”

Payton's son Jarrett presented the award to Fanor and Prairie View A&M's Raheem Cardwell at the welcome reception. On Sunday, Fanor had five tackles in the Wildcats' 63-14 win.

Larry Little And Other Challenge Legends

ADDING TO THE LEGEND: Former B-CU lineman and coach Larry Little was one of fiver MEAC/SWAC Challenge Legends honored Saturday at a reception at the Walt Disney World Contemporary Resort. The Wildcat great was joined by another NFL Hall of Famer – Ken Houston of Prairie View A&M along with long-time Detroit Lion Robert Porcher III (South Carolina State) and in addition to Vice Admiral David Brewer III and famed poet Nikki Giovanni.

SIGHTS AND SOUNDS: NBA All-Star and Daytona Beach product Vince Carter was at Sunday's game … The Disney experience included a parade experience for the B-CU band Saturday and the chance to hear football players screaming when they rode the Tower of Terror and the Rock-And-Roller Coaster Friday night … And of course, there was the obligatory photo op with Mickey Mouse, who deserves credit for striking the Heisman Trophy pose when he took a picture with Brian Jenkins and the B-CU coaching staff.
