NORFOLK, Va. – Bethune-Cookman Head Football Coach Brian Jenkins was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Coach of the Year, conference officials announced Saturday morning. Additionally, Terrance Hackney was selected as the league's Offensive Lineman of the Year. It was the first time a B-CU player has earned Offensive Lineman of the Year accolades.

In his third year at the helm of the Wildcats program, Jenkins earned his second MEAC Coach of the Year award, also picking up the honor following his first season in 2010, when the Cats were crowned Co-Champs of the league. This season, Jenkins has guided B-CU to its first undisputed conference title since 2002, and helped the school capture its first-ever 8-0 record in MEAC play. The Cats earned the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) playoffs, playing host to Coastal Carolina this afternoon at Municipal Stadium.

“This is a great honor to be named Coach of the Year amongst so many good coaches in this league,” said Jenkins. “A number of guys could have received this award after tremendous seasons with their programs. I have so much respect for all of the coaches in this league. It just goes to show the other coaches see and appreciation the hard work that we put in here at B-CU, as well as the tremendous job all year by my assistant coaches and staff. Without them, this award really doesn't mean anything at all.”

Currently, Bethune-Cookman ranks No. 22 in both The Sports Network FCS and FCS Coach's poll. This is the second time in the Brian Jenkins era the Wildcats are serving as host of an FCS playoff game, playing New Hampshire inside Municipal Stadium in 2010 after earning a first round bye.

The last time Bethune-Cookman went undefeated in league play was 1984 when they finished 4-0.

Terrance Hackney, a sophomore from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, is picking up his first MEAC Offensive Lineman of the Year award. On the year, the 6-6, 310-pound transfer from Ole Miss aided a dominating Wildcats offense that accounted for 4,235 yards of total offense including 2,722 yards on the ground.  Behind Hackney's blocking output, Bethune-Cookman finished first in the MEAC in scoring offense (30.8 ppg), rushing offense (237.5 avg/g), and total offense (385.0 avg/g). Hackney earned the conference's Offensive Lineman of the Week honor once this season (Oct. 8) following the Cats' victory over North Carolina A&T.

Before him, Ryan Davis was the 2011 MEAC Defensive Player of the Year, and Matt Johnson was 2010 MEAC Offensive Player of the Year.

Isidore Jackson was named to the All-MEAC First Team as running back after finishing the regular season rushing for 992 yards and 10 touchdowns. He enters the FCS playoffs needing just eight (8) yards to eclipse the 1,000-yard plateau – becoming the first Wildcat to rush for 1,000 yards in a season since quarterback Allen Suber in 2002.

Joining Jackson on the first team for B-CU was center Eugene Solomon and, of course, Hackney. LeBrandon Richardson earned first team accolades as a defensive lineman, leading the team with 13 tackles-for-loss, including 8.5 sacks. Richardson finished the regular season with 49 total stops (31 solo). He was joined on the defensive first team by linebacker Jarkevis Fields – the Wildcats leading tackler with 88 total (47 assisted / six tackles for loss) and junior defensive back Nick Addison. Addison finished second on the team in tackles with 58, adding a team-high tying three interceptions and team-leading six pass breakups and nine deflections.

B-CU offensive lineman Lavon McCoy was voted to the second team on offense, while defensive lineman Harold Love III and defensive back D.J. Howard were tabbed second team on defense.
