PHILADELPHIA -
Bethune-Cookman offensive lineman Terrance Hackney has been selected to The
Sports Network FCS All-America Third Team announced Monday afternoon from The
Sports Network offices in Philadelphia.
The 6-6, 310-pound offensive tackle from Chapel Hill, North
Carolina is picking up his second All-America award of the year after being
named to the BSN All-America squad last week. In total, Hackney has now
registered two All-America team nods, in addition to the MEAC All-Conference
Team and the MEAC Offensive Lineman of the Year award.
In 2012, Hackney - a transfer from Ole Miss -
anchored a Bethune-Cookman offensive line unit paving the way for a
MEAC-leading 4,665 yards of total offense. That total includes a league-leading
2,928 yards on the ground. Hackney's blocking exploits were instrumental in
placing Bethune-Cookman atop the conference in scoring offense (29.4 points per
game).
As a team, the Wildcats won the 2012 MEAC title -
the fifth of its kind in school history - after recording an unblemished record
of 8-0 in the league, advancing to the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision
(FCS) Playoffs for the second time under head coach Brian Jenkins, recently
completing his third year at the helm in Daytona Beach. Overall, the Cats have
won two of the last three MEAC crowns.
Joining Hackney on this year's Sports Network
All-America squad from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference was linebacker Keith
Pough of Howard, named to the second team defensive unit.
The
Big Sky, the largest conference in the FCS, had the most All-America selections
with 16, followed by the Southern Conference with 15, CAA Football with 12, the
Missouri Valley Football Conference with 11, and the Ohio Valley Conference
with 10. The Southland Conference garnered seven selections, the Ivy League,
Patriot League and Southwestern Athletic Conference had five selections each,
the Big South four, the Northeast Conference three, and the Mid-Eastern
Athletic Conference and the Pioneer Football League two each.
