Volleyball Q&A: Janeen Davis

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Senior outside hitter Janeen Davis garnered a second team berth on the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference team after registering 450 kills in 2011. Any other year, that would have been a Bethune-Cookman school record, but Krysta Gardner topped it with 479.

She's a native of San Antonio, Texas and is majoring in biology.

Q: Ready for the season?

A: I'm getting there as far as the conditioning goes. When the time comes, I'll be there.

Q: Any other year, we'd be talking about YOUR school record for kills, but Krysta outdistanced you for the season record. No grumbling?

A: I'm glad we got up there and got OUR name up there in the MEAC stats and recognition; we showed we're a force to be reckoned with . Krysta deserves everything. I could have pushed it more.

Q: What makes Gardner-Davis an effective 1-2 combo?

A: We complement each other well. If one person's having an off day, the other is there to pick her up. And not just hitting .. passing and defense as well.

Q: Is there a sense about how close this program is to making a breakout?

A: Yes. We're so far ahead in fundamentals. We can jump into a faster game. We can surprise some people this year

Q: You have a lot to look forward to with this being your senior year, but how exciting is it knowing that your mom is going to be attending a lot of matches?

A: She's definitely coming to all the home matches and a lot of the tournaments. She's  110 percent behind me. She's my biggest fan and I'm glad to have her support.

Q: We were out in Texas for softball back in May. What's the deal you Texans have about chicken fried bacon?

A: We don't have that in San Antonio. Sounds disgusting. I wouldn't eat it.
