DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Bethune-Cookman Athletics hosted its annual Woman 2 Woman Symposium on Wednesday (March 27) night at the L. Gale Lemerand School of Nursing, featuring speakers from a variety of fields and disciplines for an important information session with B-CU's female student-athletes.
Led by Bethune-Cookman Senior Woman Administrator Sandra L. Booker, speakers Dr. Tedra Gilmore, Kisya Killingsworth-Putney and T. Renee Crutcher tackled personal issues hitting home with female student-athletes in a modern world. The trio shared a wealth of life experiences and answered questions on a variety of topics, including personal and women's health, growth as a young woman in today's college life, personal responsibility, working with mentors and personal resources, relationships, social concerns, maintaining links to spirituality and to the struggles of those before you, and finding your way in the world.
“It is extremely important that we have these symposiums because many of our female student-athletes are faced daily with situations that require them to make sound decisions and we want to make sure that they are educated on how to make the right decision, so that their actions or choices do not have a negative effect on their life in the future,” Booker commented.
Gilmore is a practicing OB-GYN in the Daytona Beach area and she received her undergraduate degree from the University of Delaware in 1998, later attending the Hahnemann School of Medicine in Philadelphia, graduating in 2002. Her interpersonal approach to treatment is widely recognized and this was her second time talking to the B-CU group.
Killingsworth-Putney is a former Miss Florida Volleyball and All-American volleyball player at the University of Florida, in addition to the fact that she is an assistant volleyball coach at B-CU. As a student-athlete with a high-level body of work and a young coach, she provided a unique insight to the young women of B-CU athletics to help them to grow in their relationships and as young adults.
Crutcher is the Founder/Executive Director at Sankofa Ministries & Tellin' Our Story Publishing, Inc. She attended the University Of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music where she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA), later attending Emory University, where she received her Master of Divinity in Theology.
