BOCA RATON, Fla. – Rhea Simon had eight kills and six digs as Bethune-Cookman concluded play in the FAU Invitational with a 3-0 (25-17,25-22,25-17) loss to the host Owls Saturday afternoon.
Simon and freshman Lauren Turner (five kills) were named to the all-tournament team.
Freshman setter Alexas Thomas posted a double-double of 24 assists and 14 digs while Destiny Hudson added six kills and Delicia Pierre four kills and three services aces for B-CU, now 0-3 on the season.
The Wildcats used two kills each from Simon and Destiny Hudson and two Delicia Pierre service aces to build a 12-6 lead in the opening set, but FAU would score 11 consecutive points to regain control and take the first set.
Down 14-9, a Pierre service run helped B-CU tie the second set at 14-14 and 15-15. FAU saw a 23-19 lead dwindled to 23-22 before the Owls scored the final two points.
Alessa Pizzoccheri had 11 kills and 18 digs for the Owls, who improved to 2-1.
B-CU faces Stetson Friday night.
