SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Rhea Simon had 10 kills and two service aces as Bethune-Cookman snapped an 11-match losing streak Sunday with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-15) Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Southern Division victory over Savannah State.
Delicia Pierre added seven kills, while Destiny Hudson and Phylecia Armstrong each posted four as the Lady Cats (2-15 overall, 1-1 MEAC) never trailed in the final two sets.
Savannah State (0-18,0-2) closed to 15-14 in the second, but B-CU scored the next four points and 10 of the final 11 to regain control.
B-CU jumped out to a 6-1 third set lead and never led the Tigers get within four points. Jennifer Jimenez closed the match with a service ace.
Alexas Thomas finished with 22 assists, two service aces and eight digs. Normarie Rolon added eight digs, and Jill Arlaud had two blocks.
B-CU hosts Florida Gulf Coast Tuesday and returns to MEAC play Friday when its hosts North Carolina A&T.
NOTES: Jimenez closed to three digs of the 1,000 career mark ... B-CU now leads the all-time series 27-0.
