DELAND, Fla. – Bailey Connor drove in two runs and got the win in relief while Shamaria Engram's home run in the sixth to lifted Bethune-Cookman to its first win of the 2014 season, a 3-2 decision over Campbell in the opening game of the Hatter Invitational Friday.
The Wildcats (1-6) dropped a 5-0 decision to Elon later in the day.
Connor got the Wildcats out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam with no damage in the top of the sixth.
In the bottom half of the inning, Connor launched a solo homer to right center to tie Campbell (2-3) at 2-2. Ingram followed two batters later with a shot that bounced off the left field foul pole for the go-ahead run.
Connor worked a perfect seventh inning for her first collegiate victory.
Connor drove in Bethune-Cookman's first run in the third after Calesha Shelley bunt singled, stole second and advanced to third on an infield grounder.
In the second game, Elon (4-0-1) loaded the bases with no outs in the first. Connor got two outs, but Johanna Spencer cleared the bases with a double and scored on Aly Quintana's single to give the Phoenix a 4-0 lead.
B-CU threatened in the fifth when Breanna Chavez walked, Wanda Darby singled and Shelley singled to load the bases, but an infield double play and a grounder kept the Wildcats scoreless.
Shelley had three hits for B-CU in the second game.
The Wildcats face Elon again at 1:30 Saturday, then take on host Stetson at 6:30 p.m.
