@BCUhoops Rally Falls Short; Bears Win 65-61

BALTIMORE – Bethune-Cookman cut a 17-point deficit down to two in the final minute, but Morgan State held off the Wildcats for a 65-61 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference victory Saturday.

Ian Chiles scored 23 points and Cedric Blossom scored 10 and grabbed 10 rebounds for Morgan State, who led 59-42 after an alley-oop dunk by the 7-foot-2 Chiles at 8:12.

Bethune-Cookman (6-24,4-11) cut the lead to five after a steal and layup by Tony Kynard, then Mikel Trapp made it a two-point game 63-61 with a bucket with 19 seconds to play. Blossom hit two free throws to clinch the win.

Anthony Hubbard boosted Morgan State's first-half lead to 30-23 after hitting two free throws, but Bethune-Cookman's Malik Jackson hit a jumper and Clemmye Owens drained a desperation shot from half-court at the buzzer to trim the Bears' lead to 30-28 at halftime.

Trapp tied the game with a jumper that made it 30-30 in the opening minute of the second, but the Bears went on a 9-2 run and never trailed again.

Owens led Bethune-Cookman with 18, Jackson had 11, and Maurice Taylor grabbed 10 rebounds.

B-CU concluded the regular season Thursday at Florida A&M.
