DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman will honor its 1984 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) championship football team with a reception Friday, September 12, at 6 p.m., in the President's Dining Room of the Mary McLeod Bethune Performing Arts Center.
Former Head Coach and NFL Hall of Famer Larry Little, who led the Wildcats to their first-ever title in his second season coaching at his alma mater, will attend. Larry Wesley, football color analyst on the B-CU CatEye Network, will serve as master of ceremonies for a program that will look back at the 1984 season's highlights.
Led by the high-powered passing offense of quarterback Bernard Hawk and the defense of All-American defensive back John Bostic, the Wildcats went undefeated (4-0) in conference play and 7-3 overall to take the championship.
Members of the 1984 team wishing to attend are encouraged to attend and RSVP through the B-CU Office of Athletics. The reception is not open to the public, but highlights and a story will proceed it Friday evening.
The 2014 Wildcats will face Grambling State in their home opener Saturday at 4 p.m. at Municipal Stadium.
