BCU Volleyball Dominates Stetson During Rematch

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - After a slow start, it was all Bethune-Cookman during sets two through four as the Wildcats cruised to a 3-1 (24-26, 25-11, 25-18, 25-18) victory over Volusia County foe, Stetson, Tuesday, Sept. 22 in Moore Gym.

Set one saw eight ties and three lead changes before the Hatters closed out the 26-24 victory taking the 1-0 advantage.

The second game was all B-CU after the Wildcats used an 11-0 run to pull ahead 22-10 over Stetson. A Hatters kill ended the score run for the 'Cats before B-CU closed out the set on a Hazel Ortiz Rosado kill, capturing the convincing 25-11 win heading into the intermission.

A 4-1 run opened the third set for the Wildcats followed by a mid-set 5-0 run pushing B-CU on top 17-9. A Delicia Pierre kill sealed the third-set 25-18 win, giving the 'Cats the 2-0 match advantage.

Leading 4-1 early in the fourth, Alexas Thomas went back to the service line for the Wildcats. Thomas collected four service aces and helped plus B-CU to a 12-1 lead.

It was all Wildcats for the remainder of the set, as B-CU earned the 25-18 victory and 3-1 match win.

Thomas' six service aces during the match was a career-best for the junior and ranks fourth in the NCAA during the 2015 season for best during a match.

Three 'Cats finished with double-figure kills as Delica Pierre led the game with 14. Rhea Simon added 11 kills while Phylecia Armstrong earned 10 kills on 15 attempts and no errors (.667).

Hazel Ortiz Rosado ran the B-CU offense with a team-best 33 assists, while Normarie Rolon collected a match-best 13 digs.

The Wildcats open Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference action this weekend with a weekend swing at Savannah State (Sept. 25) and South Carolina State (Sept. 27).
