PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – After leading by as many as 22, Bethune-Cookman women's basketball fell in heart-breaking fashion as the Wildcats dropped a 66-64 buzzer-beater decision at Prairie View A&M, Saturday, Nov. 19 in Prairie View, Texas.
Senior duo
Taylor Houston and
Kailyn Williams led the BCU offense with 16 and 12 points respectively. Houston finished 5-for-10 from the floor and 4-for-4 from downtown while Williams went 6-for-12 from the field. Each also collected seven rebounds while Houston dished two assists and Williams blocked three shots.
During the 4:35 mark in the first quarter, senior
Kendra Cooper nailed a jumped that put her in the 1,000+ point club at BCU in front of her family and home state.
Cooper also knocked down a pair of foul shots at the 8:16 mark in the third quarter, giving the Wildcats their largest lead of the game at 22.
BCU held onto a 14 lead heading into the final stanza before the Panthers used a 10-0 to open the last ten minutes of play, cutting the Wildcat's lead to four.
With 36 seconds left to play and a one-point lead, a Cooper foul sent PVAMU to the foul line to tie the game at 64.
Williams missed a bucket to take the lead in the final 13 seconds allowing the Panthers to get the rebound and call a timeout with four seconds left on the clock.
PVAMU's Jeronia Allen nailed a jumper from the right side as time expired, giving the Panthers the last-second victory, 66-64.
The Wildcats return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 22 as Bethune-Cookman's road trip continues in Baton Rouge, La., where BCU faces Southern University at 5:30 p.m.
