@BCUDiamondcats Drop 14-7 Decision At #3 Miami

MIAMI – Another Tuesday, another top five opponent for Bethune-Cookman. This time, third-ranked Miami jumped out early and downed the Wildcats 14-7 at Mark Light Field.

Zack Collins' solo home run in the first and a four-run second inning helped the Hurricanes (37-9) take control of a game that saw the teams combine for 29 hits.

Demetrius Sims and Danny Rodriguez each had three hits for the Wildcats, who faced top-ranked Florida last Tuesday.

Bethune-Cookman (23-24) got on the board in the fifth when Demetrius Sims ripped a two-out opposite field triple that scored Rakeem Quinn and Nate SterijevskiSims scored on a wild pitch that cut Miami's lead to 7-3.

Miami answered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth, then, in the seventh, answered Michael Cruz bringing home Quinn with a five-run outburst that capitalized on four Wildcat walks.

The Wildcats plated three in the ninth. Quinn scored on a Rodriguez single, Cruz scored on a fielder's choice by Clay Middleton, who came in on an error after Brandon AmendolareBrandon Amendolare singled.

Cruz and Amendolare each had two hits for the Wildcats, while Quinn scored three runs. Sims stole two bases in addition to his two RBI.

Eight Wildcat pitcher saw action Tuesday, with German Hernandez taking the loss. Alex Seibold struck out three in his two innings, while Joseph Calamita, Zach Olszewski and Alexis Herrera each worked a scoreless relief inning.

The Wildcats conclude the regular season this weekend with a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference series at Savannah State.
