ATLANTA -- Bethune-Cookman's Alejandra Vidal and Phatsimo Ruele won the Women's "A" Doubles Flight Saturday at the HBCU National Championship at South Fulton Tennis Center.
After an 8-0 victory over Florida A&M's Karla Flores / Daniella Rios in the semifinals, Vidal/Ruele earned a walkover  decision over Howard's Jessica Josiah / Nicole Hutchison in the championship.
Vidal, a junior, won a singles flight as a freshman in 2014. Ruele, a freshman, was competing in her first collegiate tournament.
In other action Saturday, junior Matea Roki retired due to injury in her Women's "B" flight semifinal against Tanaka Chakanyuka of Howard.

Alvaro Barrera dropped an 8-1 semifinal decision to Courage Okungbowa / Illya Skoromnyy of
Florida A&M.
This was the opening weekend of the Fall season for both Wildcat squad. They return action next weekend at the Bedford Cup Championships in Tampa.
