Cats Tennis Sticks Close To Home This Weekend

B-CU competes at Embry-Riddle for first time since 2023

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman Women's Tennis sticks close to campus this weekend as the Cats compete at nearby Embry-Riddle for the ERAU Hidden Duals this Friday through Sunday, October 24-26, at the Crotty Tennis Complex. 

B-CU Head Coach Chris Wollet returns to where he previously spent eight seasons as an assistant coach under Dave Paschal for both the Eagles' men's and women's programs.

 Women's Tennis finished up the 2025 edition of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Fall Tournament on Saturday afternoon with Bethune-Cookman fielding two student-athletes in the annual event taking place at the Bulldog Tennis Courts on the campus of Alabama A&M in Huntsville, Alabama. The two-day event ran across Friday and Saturday, respectfully.
 
On Saturday, Bethune-Cookman's doubles team of Jalayah Shaw and Zahara El-Zein took on Jackson State's Victoria Linkovski and Helen Hernandez in the semifinals, after the B-CU duo was awarded a bye in the opening round.
 
The Wildcats tandem fell 8-5 in the only match played by the Maroon and Gold on the day.
 
In singles play, sophomore El-Zein fell in a three-set thriller to Sofia Sotelo Raya of Alabama A&M on scores of 6-4, 2-6, 0-6. The other singles match saw Shaw suffer a tough straight-set defeat at the hands of Alabama State's Cleanne Pickel 2-6, 4-6.

Scouting the Opponent In-Story Header

Embry-Riddle has competed in a pair of events this fall - one home event in mid-September and most recently ITA Regionals in Pensacola, Florida on October 4.

All four Eagles to compete in singles at the event took wins in the opening round, while the pairing olf Amelie Gindle and Benedetta Sensi fell in the second round of doubles play.

The Eagles finished the 2025 season 20-7, taking third place in the Sunshine State Conference Tennis tournament beofre a 4-3 defeat at the hands of #13 Mississippi College in the NCAA DII South Region Tournament.
