Davis Earns MEAC Co-Defensive Player of the Week

The forward averaged nine rebounds and 2.5 blocks as the Wildcats finished with a 2-0 mark

NORFOLK. Va. - Savannah State's Alante Fenner has been selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, the conference announced today. Howard's R.J. Cole and Maryland Eastern Shore's Miryne Thomas were named Co-Rookies of the Week while Savannah State's Jahir Cabeza and Bethune-Cookman's Shawntrez Davis shared Co-Defensive Player of the Week honors.
 
Fenner had an explosive weekend for the MEAC-leading Tigers as he averaged 31.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and two steals. He opened the weekend with a SSU Division I school single game record of 46 points while grabbing seven rebounds in a win over Morgan State. Against North Carolina A&T State on Monday night, Fenner scored 17 points with two steals as the win over the Aggies gave the Tigers a two-game lead in the MEAC standings. Fenner was near-perfect from the free throw line as he nailed 24-of-27 free throws for an average of 88.9 percent.
 
Thomas nearly averaged a double-double with 19.5 points and 9.5 rebounds in the past two contests for Maryland Eastern Shore. He scored 21 points with eight rebounds at Bethune-Cookman while scoring 18 points with 11 rebounds at Howard.

Cole finished the week with 22.5 points and six assists per game. He opened the past cycle with a 27-point, six-assist, three-rebound showing versus Hampton while scoring 18 points with nine rebounds and two steals versus Maryland Eastern Shore.
 
Davis averaged nine rebounds and 2.5 blocks as the Wildcats finished with a 2-0 mark. Versus Maryland Eastern Shore, Davis grabbed 11 rebounds with a blocked shot and returned to the court on Monday with a nine-rebound, four-block performance versus North Carolina Central.

Cabeza led the MEAC with eight total blocks in two games while averaging 5.5 rebounds. In Saturday's win over Morgan State, Cabeza swatted six shots along with six rebounds and three steals while blocking a pair of shots and five rebounds in Monday's win over North Carolina A&T State.
