DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Bethune-Cookman brought out its bats in a 13-3 run-rule victory against Maryland Eastern Shore on Thursday morning at Sliwa Stadium on the campus of Embry-Riddle University.
The Wildcats (21-33) remained alive in the double-elimination bracket by dominating the middle three innings.
A 1-0 lead turned lopsided with five runs in the fourth off MES (12-41) starter Evan Bertone (2-7).
Michael Deeb singled in
Jordan Stacy, while later with the bases loaded
Adonis Lao and Nate Sterijevksi both walked in runs. Rodriguez put on the final exclamation point with a two-run single.
Kyle Corbin delievered the final blow with the bases loaded and a single off the right field wall to plate
Jameel Edney.
Tyler Krull (2-3) gained the victory with three earned off six hits in 5.2 innings. He walked three batters and struck out two.
Joseph Calamita registered a strikeout looking to end a bases-loaded jam in the top of the sixth, and
Jeremy Adams kept the Hawks quiet in relief with one hit over two frames. He did not walk a batter and totaled three strikeouts.
Deeb picked up a season-high three hits and three RBI. Rodriguez hit three times and drove in a pair.
BCU plays the lower seed between games 4 and 5 of the MEAC championship tonight at Sliwa Stadium. Game 4 features North Carolina A&T State and Norfolk State, while game 5 is between Florida A&M and Coppin State.
