Box Score DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. –Bethune-Cookman fell 7-2 to North Carolina A&T State Saturday afternoon at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
The Aggies (13-9, 4-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) scored in the first frame with a Camden Williamson RBI groundout to first and the next batter, Dawnoven Smith, ripped a double down the right field line.
BCU (9-14, 3-5) punched back to load the bags with the first three batters in the home half of the first. Robert Bell then patiently drew an RBI walk, and Over Torres tied the game on a sacrifice fly to shallow right that scored Brady Van Hook.
After the Aggies scratched across a run in each of the next two innings, BCU starter Seth Lovell (2-1) exited in favor of Alec Mendez. Jason King led off the fourth with a homer over the left field wall. The inning concluded with a caught stealing and a web gem by Robert Bell on a hot liner to third.
Lovell pitched three innings with four runs, two earned, off six hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
Mendez also threw three innings with two earned runs off three hits and a walk. Bryan Melendez worked the final three frames. He scattered two hits, two walks, and allowed an unearned run in the ninth.
Zach McLean added another Aggie run on a solo shot to left in the fifth.
Aggie starter Evan Gates (3-0) pitched six innings and allowed just two runs. He gave up four hits and walks, respectively, and totaled three strikeouts.
Leon Davidson threw the final three Aggie innings for his first save.
The series wraps up Sunday at noon.
