Scouting the Dolphins

Jacksonville is 6-1 to start the season (with a game still to play Tuesday night), taking 2-3 from Troy at home last weekend. The Dolphins took down #10/#13 Florida State, 3-2, on Feb. 22, coming back from down two runs to defeat the Seminoles. Wednesday night will be JU's first road game of the young season.

Infielders Raymond Gil and Jake Berg have been top performers for the Dolphins at the plate to start the season. Gil is batting .367 with seven RBI, while Berg is batting .360 with seven RBI of his own.

The Starters

B-CU will send Hector Vazquez to the mound for another midweek start. Last time out against FIU, the right-hander tossed 5.2 innings, allowing nine hits and seven earned runs, striking out five. Vazquez also appeared in two innings of relieve in the season-opening series against Youngstown State, allowing a run in two innings, striking out four.

Jacksonville counters with right-hander Heston Mosley. Mosely has made only one appearance thus far this season, allowing three hits and two earned runs in two-thirds of an inning against High Point. The junior went 4-1 in 2021 with a .263 ERA and 62 strikeouts at St. Johns River State.

All-Time Series

The Wildcats and Dolphins have met on the diamond 32 times. JU holds a 22-10 edge in the all-time series. Most recently, the Dolphins defeated B-CU, 8-3, on Feb. 26, 2020.
