Last Time Out

The Wildcats took a hard-fought sweep at the hands of #12 LSU in Baton Rouge last weekend. The Wildcats led, 6-2, in game one of the series – taking the lead on a 3-run home run from Franki Febles - but B-CU fell 8-7 to an explosive Tiger offense.

The Wildcats tamed that Tiger lineup in game two – Gabriel Perez provided three quiet innings in relief with a pair of strikeouts.

The weekend ended on a sour note as B-CU took a 15-0 loss in the series finale. Reliever Alec Mendez made his 2022 season debut in the loss – he returns to the Wildcats after being sidelined in 2021 recovering from Tommy John surgery. He worked a clean inning with a strikeout.

Scouting the Seminoles

FSU is 10-5 this season. The Seminoles won the last two of a three game series at Wake Forest last weekend as they opened conference play. They are 8-2 at home this season.

The Seminoles are batting .285 as a team this season with an .843 OPS. They have hit 17 home runs as a team. Infielder Logan Lacey leads the Seminoles with 16 RBI, batting .290 with four homers in 15 starts this season. Catcher Jaime Ferrer is batting .368 with 10 RBI and two homers.

The FSU pitching staff has combined for a 3.17 ERA this season. Across 136 innings, they have struck out 203.

The Starters

Marcos Gamboa gets his second midweek start of the season Wednesday night. The righty was strong over three innings last week against UCF, allowing only two hits and one walk while striking out three.

FSU turns to right-hander Carson Montgomery. In three starts this season, Montgomery is 1-0 with a 2.63 ERA and 11 strikeouts in 13.2 innings pitched. Opposing batters have hit .167 against him.
