Last Time Out

The Wildcats enter the week riding a four-game win streak in which they took down the ASUN's Jacksonville and Stetson, with two wins against the NEC's Sacred Heart sprinkled in-between. The weekend featured dominant pitching performances from starters Louis Lipthratt and Nolan Santos, as well as from long reliever Gabriel Perez.

The Wildcats swept through Stetson and Sacred Heart on Saturday, including the first Wildcats shutout of Stetson in history in the two teams' 101st ever meeting. They followed that with a thrilling, 7-6 win over Sacred Heart on Sunday in extra innings.

Scouting the Knights

UCF is 8-3 to start the season. Most recently, they took one of three in a series in Orlando against #2 Ole Miss. The Knights dropped the first game of the series, 8-7, then proceeded to shutout the Rebels, 1-0 through 12 innings, in the second game Saturday.

As a team, the Knights have compiled an OPS of .823. They have hit 12 homers as a team and driven in 73 runs. UCF's pitching staff has put up an impressive 2.21 ERA thus far with only a 1.06 WHIP. Opponents are batting only .190 combined against the Knights pitching staff. They have made only six errors as a team in the field.

Gephry Pena and Nick Romano have starred at the plate for the Knights thus far. Both have started all 11 UCF games. Pena is batting .386 with nine RBI and two homers, while Romano has a 1.169 OPS with 11 RBI and three homers.

The Starters

The Wildcats will send righty Marcos Gamboa to the mound for the midweek start. The freshman has made two relief appearances this season. He pitched an inning against FIU in which he allowed no hits, walked one, and struck out two. He also too the mound against FGCU, allowing three hits and a pair of runs against the Eagles. Gamboa worked as a starter at John Carroll High School.

All-Time Series

UCF and B-CU have met on the diamond 31 times throughout history. UCF has won 27 of those meetings, while B-CU has taken four. Three of the four Wildcat wins in the series have come at home. The last time the two teams met, UCF took down the Wildcats, 6-0 at Jackie Robinson Ballpark on Feb. 25, 2020.
