Wildcats Ready for Rematch With Dolphins

Daytona Beach, Fla. – The Wildcats will head up I95 for a rematch with Jacksonville as B-CU's non-conference schedule winds down. First pitch is scheduled for Tuesday, May 3 at 7 p.m.

Last Time Out
 
The Wildcats enter the midweek contest off of a 1-2 weekend at Alabama State. The Wildcats took game one, 11-5 in a complete effort. Three Wildcats recorded multi-RBI nights in the win.
 
The Wildcats dropped the latter two games of the series, 9-5 and 3-2, despite scoring first in both games.
 
The Wildcats took down the defending ASUN Champion Dolphins in the early weeks of the season, 4-3. Hector Vazquez earned his first win of the year, allowing only two hits and a run in six innings. Four Wildcats recorded RBI and the Wildcats survived a JU rally in the ninth for the victory.
 
Scouting the Dolphins
 
Jacksonville is 22-18 this season, and 9-12 in ASUN conference play. The Dolphins took two of three from FGCU last weekend, including a 9-8 extra-inning affair on Sunday.
 
The Dolphins are batting .256 as a team with 21 homers and 194 RBI.  Infielder Christian Coipel leads his team in RBI by a large margin with 43 on 12 homers and a .868 OPS.
 
Jacksonville's pitching staff combines for a 4.78 ERA. In 367 innings, they have struck out 404, and walked 187. Opponents are hitting .250 against JU. The Dolphins have 50 errors as a team.
 
The Starters
 
Alec Mendez will make his second start of the season Tuesday night. The lefty has yet to allow a hit this season in 5.1 innings. He has allowed four hits, no walks, and struck out six.
 
Jacksonville will go with RHP Heston Mosley. In 10 appearances this season, he has totaled a 5.59 ERA and 1.55 WHIP in just over 19 innings this season. He has struck out 25.

  • Nolan Santos is tied for 29th in the NCAA in strikeouts with 82.

Tuesday marks the 34th meeting all-time between the Wildcats and Dolphins. Jacksonville holds a 22-11 edge in the series, but B-CU won the last meeting earlier this season.
