DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune Cookman's head basketball coach Reggie Theus announced today the addition of Mississippi State to the 2023-24 schedule. The road contest, to be held on December 31, replaces the Johnson University contest initially scheduled for December 12.
"We are excited about the addition of Mississippi State to our non-conference slate," Theus said. "For us, the chance to match up with an SEC school is a great opportunity for us to get a glimpse of where we are as a team and what it takes for us to reach that next level."
Mississippi State finished the 2022-23 season 21-13, with an 8-10 record in conference play. The Bulldogs compiled a 12-4 record at home in Starkville.
The Bulldogs fell to #4 Alabama in the SEC tournament, and dropped a tight, 60-59 contest to Pittsburgh in the NCAA Tournament's First Four last March.
The last time the Wildcats faced an SEC opponent was in the 2009-10 season, which also saw the Wildcats matched up with Mississippi State in Starkville. The Bulldogs ranked #19 in the country at the time according to the AP poll.
The Wildcats open the 2023-24 season on Monday, Nov. 6 at Minnesota.
