The Wildcats enter play this weekend off two straight rainouts at UCF Tuesday and Jackson State Sunday.  Sunday's rubber game of a SWAC series away to Jackson State was ultimately called off in the top of the fourth inning with the contest scoreless between the two sides. The game was resumed once previously on the day before eventually being canceled with more impending storms coming through the Hinds County area of Mississippi.
The Wildcats dropped two of three to Alabama State in Montgomery back in April, taking the series finale, 14-11 after dropping the first two games of the weekend.
Alabama State is 26-24 overall and 16-11 in SWAC play - good for third in the SWAC East standings. The Hornets are three games back in the loss column of Bethune-Cookman.
The Hornets were also scheduled to play a midweek contest Tuesday, but a game against UAB was cancelled.Â
Alabama State has lost only one SWAC series since last facing B-CU, dropping two of three to Florida A&MÂ last weekend at home.Â
Alabama State ranks atop the SWAC offensively, batting .323 as a team with 56 homers and 111 doubles. Juan Cruz is hitting .396 on the year with seven homers.
As a pitching staff, the Hornets rank fourth in the SWAC at a 6.11 team ERA with 286 walks to 390 strikeouts.
- Tanner Boccabello ranks 13th in the country in ERA and tops in the SWAC at 2.38 and fifth in the country in innings pitched at 83.1
- The Wildcats have clinched an overall .500 or better record in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2016-2017.
- B-CU is in the top 40 in all of D1 baseball in team ERA at 4.75.Â
- No SWAC team has taken more walks than the Wildcats (266).
Thursday marks the 18th all-time meeting between B-CU and Alabama State. The Wildcats are 6-11 in the series, but 4-2 at home.Â
