Jorge Rodriguez knocked in a solo home run in the bottom of the second, but that was the only offense the Wildcats could manage in an 11-1 loss at Miami, Wednesday night at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field.
Miami scored first with a walk, single, and groundout to go up 1-0 in the first.
Bethune-Cookman tied things up in the top of the second as
Jorge Rodriguez stroked his seventh homer of the season out to left field to tie things at one. Unfortunately for the Wildcats, their first hit was their only hit.
B-CU managed just one more baserunner in the game, as
Sergio Rivera took a hit-by-pitch to lead off the sixth. He stole second, but could not come around to score.
Miami, on the other hand, put up three in the fourth thanks to a bases-clearing homer, adding runs in the fourth, fifth - on another homer, four in the sixth, and one more in the seventh as they finished off a run-rule victory, 11-1.
Julian Carrasquilla made the start, allowing one earned run on one hit with two walks in two innings of work.
Brandon Vazquez took his third loss of the year, allowing three earned runs on two hits with a walk and two strikeouts in the second inning.
Four other Wildcats combined to finish up the game out of the pen.
Alabama A&M is 9-23 on the year, with a 2-10 conference record. The Bulldogs took two of three from Mississippi Valley State back at the end of March.
The Bulldogs took a beating at Alabama State last weekend, with the Hornets outscoring AAMU, 49-20 in a three game sweep.
Alabama A&M ranks in the middle of the SWAC pack offensively, hitting .293 as a team with 12 homers. Trey Rutledge leads the way with a 1.149 OPS with a homer and 10 RBI, along with 30 walks, the second-best mark in the conference.
On the mound, the Bulldogs rank 10th in the conference with a team ERA of 10.66 with 260 walks to 186 strikeouts. Weekend regular Jaiden Proper has a 6.95 ERA with 28 strikeouts to 24 walks while leading the team in innings pitched.
- B-CU leads the SWAC in runs scored with 296 on the year. They also lead in doubles (70), triples (18), and homers (46).
- The Wildcats also lead the conference in team ERA and strikeouts.
Friday will mark the 25th meeting all-time between B-CU and AAMU. The Wildcats own a 19-5 record in the series, though they lost two of three on the road to the Bulldogs last season.
