BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — After a strong offensive showings against Florida and Alabama A&M, Andrey Martinez and Maikol Lucena received SWAC Weekly Award Honors, the conference announced Thursday afternoon from its headquarters in Birmingham. Martinez was named Hitter of the Week while Lucena was named Co-Newcomer of the Week.

This is the eleventh weekly award of the season for Bethune-Cookman, the second for Martinez and first for Lucena.

Andrey Martinez continued his powerful season this past week. In a stunning midweek win over #20 Florida in Gainesville, he had three hits, four RBI and a homer, and two doubles. In the series against Alabama A&M, he had six hits, six RBI, and a home run.

Maikol Lucena's excellent debut season in the Maroon and Gold continued in a perfect week that included a sweep of Alabama A&M and a stunner over #20 Florida in Gainesville. He collected six hits, scored five runs, kocked in five RBI, stole a base, and worked a walk. Behind the dish, he did not allow a single runner to steal, catching four on the week.
