Hernandez Earns Spot on USA Baseball Collegiate National Team Staff

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Bethune-Cookman head baseball coach Jonathan Hernandez has been selected to serve on the coaching staff for the 2026 USA Baseball Collegiate National Team Training Camp, USA Baseball announced Thursday.

Hernandez will serve as an assistant coach for the Stars Team during the annual training camp, scheduled for June 27 through July 4 across various locations in North Carolina and Virginia. Following training camp, Hernandez will continue with the Stars staff as Team USA competes in the inaugural World Collegiate Baseball Championship in Taichung City, Taiwan, from July 11-15.

"It is an incredible honor to represent Bethune-Cookman University and be a part of USA Baseball," Hernandez said. "The opportunity to work with some of the top collegiate players and coaches in the country is truly special. I am grateful to USA Baseball for this opportunity and look forward to helping develop and prepare these student-athletes for international competition."

Hernandez joins a distinguished coaching staff assembled by USA Baseball General Manager of Collegiate and Professional National Teams Eric Campbell. The Stars Team will be managed by Illinois head coach Dan Hartleb and includes Arkansas pitching coach Matt Hobbs, Michigan head coach Tracy Smith, Wake Forest head coach Tom Walter, and bullpen coach Carlos Muñoz.

Recently named the Southwestern Athletic Conference Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season, Hernandez has completed eight seasons at the helm of the Wildcats program. Under his leadership, Bethune-Cookman has reestablished itself among the top programs in the SWAC and has continued its tradition of developing student-athletes both on and off the field.

The 2026 appointment marks Hernandez's continued involvement with USA Baseball. Last summer, he served on the coaching staff for the Collegiate National Team Prospects program, helping identify and develop some of the nation's premier collegiate talent.

The Collegiate National Team Training Camp features 56 of the nation's top non-draft-eligible collegiate players and serves as the selection process for Team USA's international competition roster.
