Sims Looks Over Defense at Practice

Practices can be fun with Terry Sims

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Third-year Bethune-Cookman Football Head Coach Terry Sims decided to change things up from the normal camp activities and practice on Wednesday morning. The Jesup, Georgia native turned on the music, and the Wildcats turned up the intensity. But the atmosphere was light and intense – at the same time.

It's Only Temperature
Temperatures reached 88 degrees on Wednesday morning, while the heat index felt like 98 degrees, as the humidity was at 67 percent. Winds were out of the east at 11 miles per hour, and storms roiled over the area just at the end of practice, but narrowly missed the BCU campus.

Title Defense
Bethune-Cookman will be looking to get back to the top 10 nationally ranked defenses the Wildcats have been accustomed to having over the past five years. The BCU defense dropped, statistically, just a touch in 2016. But in order for BCU to return Daytona Beach to "Title Town", then the defense must step up, and it has at practice.

Sims on Defense Mode
Head Coach Terry Sims, naturally a defensive-minded coach from his days as a defensive back, spent much of his time at Wednesday's practice overseeing the defensive side of the field. He was seen talking closely with the defensive backs and linebackers, helping them understand what Defensive Coordinator Charles "Yogi" Jones and the other defensive assistants want from the newer players.

Pump, Pump, Pump It Up
Whether it's a few "old school" songs for Sims, or if it's newer music for the players, the BCU Football team seems to coordinate and practice harder as music plays slightly in the background. According to Sims, it loosens the team up, but makes them focus more with light music in the background.

Offensive Line Gets Its Turn
After practice, Nolan Alexander "Voice of the Wildcats" spoke with offensive lineman Job Buissereth about how the Wildcats offensive line unit is working together as a unit, and how the depth of the unit is helping for the coming season.

BCU continues camp on Thursday back on the Wildcats Practice Fields at 10 a.m.
