Hoops Homecoming A Chance To Snap Skids

Feb. 11, 2011

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Both Bethune-Cookman basketball teams hope to snap two-game losing streaks at basketball homecoming Saturday when Delaware State visits the Ocean Center. The women's team tips off at 2 p.m. followed by the men at 4 p.m.

The men (13-11 overall, 7-3 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) saw its run atop the conference standings come to an end, but the overall damage was kept to a minimum. Hampton leads the league with an 8-2 mark followed by the Wildcats and Morgan State.

B-CU's final stretch run of seven games includes six teams the Wildcats have beaten, but B-CU has posted just one home win in the last four outings.

Each of Delaware State's first five MEAC losses had been decided by less than two possessions. The Hornets did defeat Norfolk State on Feb. 7 to snap a four-game losing streak. Typically a tough defensive team, that marked the fourth straight game in which DSU had allowed 70 or more points.

A 34-point game against Coppin State followed by a 20-pointer against Morgan State has strengthened CJ Reed's lead among MEAC scorers. Reed's averaging 18.6 ppg.

The women (11-11,4-6) are in eighth place trailing Coppin State and UMES by a game. Hampton leads the league at 9-1 followed by Morgan State at 8-2 with FAMU, North Carolina A&T and Howard in striking distance at 6-4.

The Lady Wildcats won the first meeting 64-56 behind 17 points from Jasmine Daniels and 7 rebounds from Amanda Hairston. DSU is currently 7-15 overall and 3-7 in the conference. Kianna Carter leads the Lady Hornets with a 9.8 average.

Sarah Bolden tenth in rebounding with a 6.5 average. Daniels is sixth in assists with 3.2 per game.
