TEMPE, Az. -- After opening the season with a 91-69 victory over Trinity College, Bethune-Cookman takes on Arizona State as part of the CBE Hall of Fame Classic Monday at 9:05 EST.
This will be the first of two trips to the Grand Canyon State for the Wildcats: B-CU returns to Arizona for a Dec. 15 meeting with Grand Canyon and former NBA star Dan Majerle.
The Classic will take B-CU to New Jersey for a sub-round at Monmouth with host Monmouth, Towson State and Central Connecticut State. Arizona State heads to Kansas City to face Maryland and either Iowa State or Alabama.
B-CU pulled away from a 42-42 halftime tie with Trinity to register the season-opening win behind 26 points from Mikel Trapp and 19 from Clemmye Owens.
Arizona State downed Chicago State 86-50 in its opening, getting 20 points from Shaquielle McKissic.
B-CU UPDATE: The Wildcats are looking for their first 2-0 start since 2010-11 … B-CU made 24 of its final 25 free throw attempts against Trinity after missing five of its first 10 … The Wildcats outshot Trinity 59.4 percent to 37.5 in the second half to pull away from a 42-42 halftime tie.
CAUGHT IN A TRAPP: Trapp's 26-point outing against Trinity was his fifth 20-point game …The senior has made a three-pointer in 30 of the past 33 games and is ninth on the all-time 3-point list with 126.
ASU UPDATE: Losing Jahii Carson, Jermaine Marshall, and Jordan Bachynski from last year's NCAA tournament left the Sun Devils with holes to fill, but McKissic returns as the leading returning scorer.
