Goodwin, Plazas Awarded Homewood Suites Awards

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Rebecca Goodwin (Bowling) and José Plazas (Men's Tennis) have been awarded this week's Homewood Suites Student-Athlete of the Week award, announced Monday afternoon by the Bethune-Cookman Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. The award represents the week of February 1-7, 2016.

Rebecca Goodwin, a senior from Port Orange, Florida, led the Wildcats bowling team over the weekend at the Florida A&M Invitational in Tallahassee, Florida. Goodwin helped the Wildcats to an 8-2 record in the invitational, including a perfect 5-0 mark in Traditional play. She finished as the bowler with the highest average in Traditional play, using a 203.80 average, with a high game of 234 in the process. She began the year as a member of the 2015-16 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Preseason Team member.

Jose Plazas, a freshman men's tennis student-athlete from Bogotà, Colombia, is the newest addition to the Bethune-Cookman squad. Plazas collected the deciding point in Bethune-Cookman's 4-3 come-from-behind victory against Campbell last Friday evening in Daytona Beach. Plazas downed the Camels' Jonathan O'Neal in No. 3 singles play, using scores of 6-7, 6-4, 6-4 for the victory. As a team, B-CU recovered from 2-0 and 3-2 deficits, respectfully, to registered the team's first victory of the season.
