Wildcats Host Stetson, Jacksonville in Midweek Contests

BCU begins 15-game homestand at Jackie Robinson Ballpark

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman Baseball is set to host two games in midweek action at Radiology Associates Field at Jackie Robinson Ballpark this week, beginning with fellow Volusia County opponent Stetson on Tuesday, Feb. 28, at 6 p.m. A day later, the Wildcats welcome Jacksonville at 6 p.m.
 
Bethune-Cookman (4-2) begins a 15-game homestand this week. In fact, the Wildcats will play five games ion six days this week, when they host Tennessee Tech to Daytona Beach this upcoming weekend.
 
This week's games against Stetson and Jacksonville are the first of two midweek affairs on the 2017 campaign against both teams, respectively. The Wildcats will return to each team in Jacksonville (April 5) and DeLand (May 2) later in the season.

Last Time Out
Three Bethune-Cookman players collected multi-hit performances Sunday afternoon, but it was just short as the Wildcats dropped the rubber game of a three-game set at Florida Gulf Coast, 8-3 at Swanson Stadium. In the loss, Bethune-Cookman drops its first series of the year as the Eagles took the last two games of the weekend.
 
Noting the Wildcats
• Bethune-Cookman dropped a weekend series at Florida Gulf Coast over the weekend, with the Dolphins taking the last two games on the weekend slate.
• Tuesday night's game marks the first of 15 consecutive games at Radiology Associates Field at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
• Jameel Edney finished the FGCU series batting .364 with a team-leading three doubles and a .636 slugging percentage.
• Freshman pitcher Isaak Gutierrez helped Bethune-Cookman take the series opener on the strength of a 13-7 decision.  He worked 4.2 innings on the mound in relief efforts, picking up his first collegiate win in the process.
• The Wildcats were predicted to finish second in the MEAC Southern Division.
• Bethune-Cookman placed five players on the preseason All-MEAC Team.

• Stetson took the series from visiting High Point with a 1-0 decision on Sunday afternoon in DeLand.
• Jorge Arenas leads the team with a .310 average, including a triple and a .379 slugging percentage.
• The pitching staff is headlines by Logan Gilbert with a 0.00 ERA in three appearances on the season. He has scattered five hits on the year in 10.2 innings of work.

• The Dolphins come into the week sporting a 5-2 record on the year.
• JU took two-of-three games over the weekend from Georgia State at home.
• Last week, the Dolphins topped Florida, 3-2 in walk-off fashion.
