Box Score SAVANNAH, Ga. – Bethune-Cookman fell in a pitcher's affair, 3-2, against Savannah State Friday at Tiger Field.
The series finale, set for 3 p.m. Saturday, serves as a winner-take-all for the South No. 3 seed in next week's Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament.
BCU (17-37, 10-13 MEAC) starter Brady Norris (2-1) pitched four-plus innings with three runs, just one earned, off two hits. He issued five walks and registered four strikeouts.
Brandon Wilkes pitched for the second consecutive day and worked the final four frames without allowing a run across. He allowed just two hits, had no walks, and totaled six strikeouts.
Tiger (11-25-1, 9-14) hurler Caleb Hill (3-4) pitched all nine innings with seven hits, one earned run, two walks, and two strikeouts.
The 'Cats tied it in the fourth after Chase DeBonis singled to right field that scored Over Torres. SSU took the initial lead with a Chandler Roberson solo shot in the first.
The Tigers took a fifth inning lead with two across. A bases-loaded double play resulted in the first, and Garrett Bogart put the hosts ahead, 3-1, with an RBI single.
BCU rallied in the ninth with two outs. Brady Van Hook and Over Torres were each hit-by-pitch, with Nate Sterijevski singling between the at-bats. Chase DeBonis hit a liner hard but to third to close the game.
