BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -
Brayon Freeman has been named the first ever SWAC men's basketball Newcomer of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday from its headquarters in Birmingham, Alabama.
Senior Guard
Brayon Freeman was instrumental for the Wildcats as they collected their first win of the 2024-25 season against South Carolina State. He led all scorers with 20 points, including 10-11 from the free throw line, as well as four assists and four rebounds in the win over the Bulldogs. Earlier in the week, the Oxon Hill, Maryland native added 13 points, two boards, an assist, and two steals at Horizon League runner-up Purdue Fort Wayne on the road.
Previously, the SWAC has honored only two players with its weekly awards - Player of the Week and Impact player of the Week. Freeman takes home the first-ever edition of the newly-announced Newcomer of the Week award, which will be featured weekly going forward.
Next up for B-CU, the Wildcats will now head from one beach to another as they depart for Cancun, Mexico for the remaining two games of the 2024 Cancun Challenge. They are set to face North Dakota on Tuesday, Nov. 3 at 3 p.m. at the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya.
