BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Bethune-Cookman Women's Tennis freshman Zahara El-Zein has been selected as the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Newcomer of the Week for the period of March 19-25, announced Wednesday afternoon by the league office from its headquarters in Birmingham, Alabama.
 
For Zahara El-Zein, this is the Harare, Zimbabwe native's first ever SWAC weekly award.
 
Last week for the Wildcats, she was responsible for Women's Tennis collecting a point midweek in a home nonconference match to Northern Kentucky, with the Maroon and Gold falling on the day, 6-1. For El-Zein, she defeated NKU's Ana Isabela Serrano at No. 2 singles in straight sets (6-4, 6-2), allowing her to post her team-leading third singles win of the 2025 spring season. The victory was also her second in the last three outings, with her previous match ending unfinished versus Prairie View A&M in the first SWAC Pod of the year hosted by Jackson State, as the match result was already produced by the Panthers, respectfully.
 
B-CU returns to the court versus Southern University in a SWAC match on Friday, March 21, at 1 p.m. The match will take place at Derbyshire Park and admission to all B-CU Women's Tennis matches is free.
