DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Under the direction of Head Coach
Raymond Woodie Jr., Bethune-Cookman Football announced Thursday morning the two additions to the staff for the upcoming season with
Pat Brown and
Keith Towbridge arriving as assistant coaches to the Wildcats program. Both coaches are set to begin their duties immediately.
Â
Pat Brown is returning to Daytona Beach and the Maroon and Gold after serving the 2012 season as a graduate assistant under former head coach Brian Jenkins. Brown arrives after spending the 2024 season at Abilene Christian, where he was an assistant coach presiding over running backs and serving as the program's recruiting coordinator. He was responsible for recruiting and coaching one of ACU's best players since moving to Division I in the form of Sam Hicks. Hicks registered a record-breaking 2024 campaign, as did the entirety of the running backs core. Collectively, the running backs unit had over 3,300 all-purpose yards, 30 total touchdowns, 500 yards receiving, over 2,100 yards rushing, and averaged 5.9yds per carry. Prior to his time at ACU, Brown was the Wide Receivers Passing Game Coordinator with Division II powerhouse Valdosta State in Georgia.
Â
In 2019, Brown was hired as the head coach for the varsity squad at Seabreeze High School in Ormond Beach, Florida. As part of his inaugural season, Brown was responsible for one of the biggest turnarounds in the history of the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA). The Sandcrabs posted a record of 5-5 after winning just six (6) games total across a three-year span (2016-2018) prior to his arrival. Brown led Seabreeze to the FHSAA Playoffs in 2020, on his way to being named the Florida Athletic Coaches Association District 9 to 6-A Coach of the Year.
Â
Brown comes back to his alma mater having played as a wide receiver for B-CU in 2010, where he was a member of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) champion and HBCU champion Wildcats, transferring in from Rutgers where he played three years prior (2007-2009).
Â
Keith Towbridge is set to serve as Bethune-Cookman's co-special teams coordinator and also coaching tight ends.
Â
Towbridge most recently worked at Purdue, where he served the 2024 season coaching tight ends. With the Boilermakers, he aided in coaching Max Klare, a John Mackey Award watch list and Third Team All-Big 10 performer, who led the offense in receptions (51), yards (685) and receiving touchdowns (4), respectfully.
Â
In fall 2020, Towbridge began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Western High School in Louisville, Kentucky. From 2021-2023, Towbridge served as the Tight-Ends/Co-Offensive Coordinator for Christian Academy of
Louisville (CAL), helping lead the squad to a 3-A (AAA) state title in consecutive seasons (2022 & '23). In winning the 2022 state championship, he officially won both as a coach and as a student-athlete, respectfully
Â
Towbridge was inducted into the 2023 Class of the Central Catholic High School Hall of Fame in his hometown of Toledo, Ohio. He is a graduate of Louisville, earning a bachelor's degree in communication, after playing football for the Cardinals and being a member of the 2016 team that ranked No. 3 in the college football polls, while also playing
alongside Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson.
