Mike Ardis was never far from the spotlight during his days at Bethune-Cookman, where he shined as a football, basketball and golf standout.

He threw the famed touchdown pass to "Cy" McClairen in the 1952 victory over Florida A&M and played alongside John Chaney on the 1952-53 team that went 24-2 and won the SIAC championship. In addition winning eight letters in those two sports, Ardis co-captained Bethune-Cookman's first golf team, leading it to a pair of conference championships.

After serving in the Army Signal corps in Korea after graduating,  Ardis coached at Mickens High School in Dade City, Fla, where his baseball team won seven state championships.

His love of golf continued through retirement,  spending summers with underprivileged youth coaching the sport in his hometown of Lakeland, Fla.
